BIDR Auctions is proud to present this 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Challenge Racer, showing 99 miles at the time of cataloging. Finished in black with white accents over a black interior, this limited-production, race-focused Cobra is offered by the selling dealer on a Manufacturer Statement of Origin (MSO).

Few shapes are as instantly recognizable—or as tied to American motorsport lore—as the Shelby Cobra. The original roadsters made their name in the 1960s with brutal acceleration, sharp reflexes, and a raw, open-top driving experience that left nothing filtered. Years later, Shelby American carried that legacy forward with the CSX-4000 continuation series, produced and sanctioned by the factory beginning in the 1990s.

This example—chassis CSX 4257—was assembled in 2001 for the Shelby Cobra Challenge Senior Racing Series, a one-make program intended to put notable drivers into identically prepared Cobras for a 2002 season of events. The series ultimately never launched, but a small number of these purpose-built Challenge cars remain today—making survivors like this one especially compelling for collectors who value provenance and period-correct competition intent.

Acquired from its long-term original owner, this Cobra is presented as a turn-key, track-designated Shelby with an exceptional backstory. Please note: it is sold on an MSO and is intended for track use only.
